This is necessary for Windows to make decisions around a consistent and predictable user experience when switching between keyboarding and pointing.

If the three values CurtainLeft , CurtainRight , and CurtainTop are found, Curtains will be constructed using these as distances from the respective edges. If all three of these values are not found, the legacy configuration see Legacy Curtains below will be used next, followed by defaults. The legacy algorithm for configuring curtains changes curtain sizes depending on the vertical location of touchpad event, and isn’t as flexible for customization.

Going forward, it is recommended that only SpaceBarOffset and HorizontalOffset values be set, and curtains be otherwise configured through CurtainTop The high sensnistivy region is intended to stay responsive even during or immediately after keybaord use.

The width of the region on either side of the center line Zone Width in the diagram above is defined as:. Note that this means the total width of the region is twice this value. SpacebarOffset is taken into account for the region, since proximity to the keyboard increases risk of palm contact. The height of the region is defined in relation to the space bar and stretches to the bottom of the touchpad.

Distance to the top of the zone is defined as:. The restricted sensitivity zone is the lowest sensitivity region of the touchpad. It is designed for the region of the touchpad where users would not leave fingers during intentional use. Note these are very small by default and should only be widened for very large devices.

The top, left, and right zones’ sizes are defined independently as a distance from their respective edge. They use the registry keys shown in the following table. The following registry values allow the configuration of the right click zone. The height is expressed by RightClickZoneHeight as a percentage of the height of the entire touchpad measured from the bottom edge. In this case, using the TouchPad as a mouse works better. Maybe someday Satya Nadella will get his head out of the up-and-locked position and have Windows 10 improved for touch users.

You think the touch experience is “sucky” but you use it half the time even with the trackpad available? As for me default settings for TouchPad control are too limited. I use gesture sign app to create dozens of gestures to control not only volume, playback etc, but browser behavior, brightness and so on.

This app works with touch screen too, but it is less handy as if it will be a part of the system. Mind sharing your custom touchpad gestures? As I said previously this gestures also work with a touchscreen, but it isn’t so handy for me.

Does anyone know with Precision drivers, is there any way to have “Edge Motion” at least that’s what Synaptics calls it. That’s where when you get to the edge of the trackpad, you just hold your finger at the edge and it will keep moving in that direction until you release.

It’s not a big deal when you’re just moving the cursor, but if you’re dragging an item, it’s essential. Otherwise, you literally can’t get it to where you intended. Since switiching to the Precision Drivers, better in many ways, but I don’t see how to turn on the essential Edge Motion feature. Wow do I feel stupid — it’s automatic with Precision. I’m so used to having to turn it on and testing it by just moving the cursor without actually dragging anything, it hadn’t occurred to me it would be built in but only when dragging.

We tested this on a inch HP Spectre x model and on a inch Dell Inspiron 14z model. It not only worked on both laptops, it made the touchpads feel a lot better—in our opinion. At CES , an HP representative told us that HP was looking at making it possible for users to choose between treating the touchpad as a Precision Touchpad and using the manufacturer-provided drivers. Update : The Fall Creators Update broke this tweak on both laptops we tried it on.

We had some issues clicking and then our touchpads would stop responding shortly after boot. This works because, Precision Touchpad or non-Precision Touchpad, laptops generally have the same underlying hardware. This will not work on every single laptop.

You may encounter problems on some laptops; it just depends on the hardware. Many people feel the general movement and sensitivity of the Microsoft-customized Precision Touchpad experience feels better than the standard Synaptics or ELAN drivers. You may be able to improve your touchpad responsiveness by installing the Precision Touchpad drivers using the instructions below. We recommend you have a physical mouse ready, just in case. Either a USB or Bluetooth mouse will work—just be sure you have something to use in case your touchpad stops working.

Of course, you can always navigate your computer with your keyboard or even a touch screen, if it has one. You can check from the Device Manager. However, we recommend you be careful when using the Device Manager.

You might also want to go ahead and create a System Restore point, so that you can easily revert to your old drivers if you need to. This is normal. Windows automatically installs the driver. Restart your PC after the process is finished to activate your new Precision Touchpad drivers. You can fix this by searching for updated Precision Touchpad drivers.

On Razer Blade laptops, the touchpad appears to stop functioning after the PC goes into standby, too. According to dustytouch on Reddit, you can fix this problem by downgrading your Precision Touchpad driver.

The original Reddit thread where this trick was first posted online is a great place to find more troubleshooting tips and reports about whether this technique works on your specific model of laptop. Find the download page for your specific model of laptop, download the touchpad drivers, and install them.

Or, if you took the step of creating a System Restore point , you can restore to that point.
