I’m using this software excursively for digitizing my vinyl record collection. Therefore I can only review the vinyl record processing software built in the the Studio. For that portion, it works very well. It automatically attempts to detect the tracks on the album, allows manual track editing when required, provides a tick and pop cleanup option as well as an audio leveling option.

You can also enter the track song titles, album name and artist, genre, all of which gets embedded into each songs metadata and save it to a directory structure similar to that which is built when you rip a CD. You can also set the sampling rate and file format mp3 or wav. For my needs I am very happy with the way this software works.

The user interface is intuitive, the ‘wizard’ presented with the vinyl record option work very well, and the resulting mp3 files sound great. The is a whole host of tools built into Audio Studio, but I’ve never needed to use them. Overall I can recommend his software for digitizing your vinyl. I would give this suite a 5 star rating based on the vinyl tools, however I felt funny doing that without using all this suite has to offer.

Having run the recorded music gamut from LP to 8 track, to cassette, to CD and now digital, I’ve got a variety of recorded media. My most recent recorded music challenge came in the form of digital “tracks” that were comprised of up to four different songs – the product of a transfer from cassette to CD to digital. My otherwise acceptable Pioneer 3 CD play, 1 CD record circa home stereo unit, never did a great job automatically separating the tracks from LP or cassette sources.

Thus, the combo tracks, which wholly defeat the random access track capability of CD and digital music files. The Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 resolved that issue permitting a visual assessment of the multi-track “track” and then enabling “cutting” and saving each track as a separate digital file song. The included iZotope Audio Enhancer allowed me to clean up the muddiness and other sound deficiencies of the original source material, e. I even tried out the Vocal Eraser to create a Karaoke version of a song and it did the trick.

Don’t bother with the electronic “users manual” but instead use the “Show Me How Tutorials” that will pop up when you open the software. These will clearly explain what you have to do to perform the most common sound editing tasks.

I bought this program for one purpose; to digitize my vinyl collection, and it does an excellent job! It nicely walks you through the process of recording your albums step by step, offers an option of ‘cleaning up’ the recording ie; removing some pops etc. You also have the option to save the file in numerous types of common sound types, depending on your preference. I’ve only dabbled with it so far and haven’t gotten very deep into all of it’s options, of which it has lots and lots – it appears to be a hugely complex program with a lot of editing, processing, and FX, but that’s way beyond anything I need.

But that’s also the only real problem I’ve found with it – it offers all the incredibly complex options and abilities, but doesn’t come with a manual that really explains them all. I’d like a manual that explains all the highly technical terms and their uses in the rows of menus – this may or may not be a problem for you. So in my opinion it’s a good, pretty easy program for beginners but also offers a lot of depth to get into if you’re interested in growing with it.

For the price, I can give it a solid recommendation. PS – my OS is Windows 8. It isn’t flawless but works well for the money and my intended use. I may later use it for other things but I purchased it primarily to digitize my LPs. Although I could wish for a bit more flexibility it is a very low cost audio software package.

It tries to predict the beginning and ending spot of each track and is fairly close. I only wish it would let me cut sections of the recording instead of making everything a track this is in the LP conversion wizard and may not apply to other modes.

I always have to delete the “track” from the middle of the recording where I am turning over the LP – I could pause the recording but would have to closely monitor it to do this. Still, for the low purchase price I am satisfied. So far I’m using this software strictly for burning my live concert tracks to disc. Be sure to install the Sony iZotope audio enhancer plug-in, which, from my experience prevents the doubling of the final track when closing the disc.

I ruined too many discs before I discovered the little Sony download which was the fix for my trial basis Studio 10 closing problem.

The price is right for this standard Studio 10, which, is perfect for those not requiring massive editing functions found in the Pro version. Do read the other reviews to make sure this product is what you want. I have used the full version of Sound Forge for years but couldn’t justify the expense of upgrading when I went to Windows 7 and my old version wasn’t supported any more.

The main things that seem to be missing are batch processing and the spectrum view modes. At first I wondered if it were some mistake, but I received it and the serial numbers were accepted I had already downloaded the trial version from Sony. At this price it’s an utter steal and I highly recommend it. Demo’d this then decided to purchase.

It’s so easy to use and still discovering many things. I have many other pro-quality DAW’s, soft synths, and hardware and use this for final mastering of my music. Many of my other software for music is complicated, but this is just a breeze to use. I’d recommend it for anyone doing their own music. After you load it, visit Sony website to update to their current “build” now , which is free. Sony does a great job of supporting their products, and this one has been out there for many years.
